The History of our School
Our current school was built in 1933. Prior to that, pupils attended school in a building located approximately 1/2 km from our present school on the Bawnmore Road.
In 2000, an extension comprising of a resource room, toilets and a storage room was completed. There were out-door toilets until we got this extension. To raise money, the parents organised a Fashion Show, An American Tea Party and a raffle.
In 2013, a further extension was completed in order to cater for the number of children attending our school. This development ensures that we are able to provide the best facilities for the children in our area.
The teachers in 1933 were Master Desmond (principal) and his wife Mrs. Desmond. They lived in Masseytown, Macroom. Fr. Batty, (their son) , who was, at a time, curate in our parish of Clondrohid, was a past pupil of the old school and was present at the opening day of the new school. His brother, Andrew, was the father of Dermot Desmond, the very successful business man who was involved in Celtic Football Club.
There were up to 40/50 pupils in the school up to the 1990’s. Then, the numbers dropped to 15 and it became a one-teacher school for a few years.
There used to be two shops outside the school and the pupils used to go there after school.
