Green Schools – Global citizenship and litter and waste
Designathon Competition
Pupils from the Senior room entered the Global Designathon competition organised by Green Schools Ireland and Cork county council.
Groups were given the task of designing a prototype to help an ecosystem. Each group used recyclable materials, lego, old toys and electrical components to create their prototype. Groups created a ‘Pollution Picker 5000’, ‘Percy the Penguin’, ‘Finding memo’, ‘The Cleaners of the Seven Seas’ and ‘Shark 4000’.
The two winning groups ‘Percy the Penguin’ and ‘Pollution Picker 5000’ went on to represent the school in the Vertigo suite of the county hall. Each group presented their project and spoke about ways it would help the environment, namely detecting when animals were injured and litter picking. Pupils enjoyed a great day at the county hall. Many thanks to Green schools Ireland and Cork county council for organising this great event.
